Fia's Fabulous Finds!
Do you have a favorite consignment or second hand store that you visit? It’s a place where you know that you can find unique finds and enjoy a personalized comfortable atmosphere. The vibe of the store is always comfortable with great music and beautiful art depicting African American women who are the epitome of beauty. Fia’s Fabulous Finds is that exact place for me. It is located on 8th and Upshur St. in NW Washington, DC. Safisha Mance is the brilliant mind and driving force behind the greatness of Fia’s! Have you ever met someone and knew that you shared a kindred spirit? I met Fia about 5 years ago at her first Fill A Bag sale which she held outside of her store. She has become like a sister that has educated me in fashion sense and aspiring to be an African American female entrepreneur. The brands range from high end brands, such as Nanette Lepore and Manolo Blahnik to Merona and Old Navy. Safisha holds monthly events, such as Fill A Bag sale for $25.00 and Margarita Happy Hour Fridays, where she pours drinks and offer a discount for all shoppers. She recently spearheaded a huge festival in Petworth that pulled together tons of independent small business owners. It was wonderful!
Yesterday I stopped by the store for my weekly visit. Fia is also a great event planner and listens to all the crazy ideas and questions for my upcoming wedding. She is always full of ideas and is a wealth of knowledge. This season, I am all about sweatshirts and sweaters. I found the cutest black sweater that is slightly distressed with hot pink lips all over it. I see myself rocking the sweater with leggings, some large hoops and a leather jacket. I have been digging sneakers a lot lately. She has a huge shoe room that houses over 100 pair of shoes and is my place of fortitude. I came across a pair of Puma sneaker wedges that were tan and hot pink and fit so comfortably. I had to have them. I also found a Juicy Couture sweatshirt with adorned with a hot pink mouth. All of my treasures came to a whopping $46.00. Can you say score!
In addition to the Fill A Bag sale every 2nd weekend of each month, Fia’s has a basement where nothing is over $10.00. It has blazers, jeans, tops, shoes and accessories! I try not to go down there because my closet is bursting at the seams. Fia asked me to go see how full the basement was looking for her upcoming events and I found brand new gray Bailey Button uggs boots for $4.00…. let that sink in! They were torn down the back seam of one of the boot which is an inexpensive fix for such a great find!
Fia is a great business woman and an even better friend. Take the time to go see her because her store is a gem!
