Cheeky Sandwiches is a great New Orleans based sandwich located on Orchard St. in Chinatown. Kiana and I were searching for a cool place to grab a small bite to eat. We knew we did not want Chinese food, but it was all we saw. After searching Yelp, we stumbled upon Cheeky that was affordable and only a few blocks from our hotel. I must admit that the entrance to the sandwich looks sketchy, but once we entered, the vibe was just great. Even the hours posted were cool. Open a little early to a little late. Genius!

The selections on the menu are very simplistic and you order according to the protein in the sandwich. Since Kiana is a pescetarian, she ordered the Sea sandwich, which is a formal po boy sandwich with deep fried shrimp and properly dressed with lettuce, tomato and pickle. I ordered the Beef sandwich, which contains braised short rib, horseradish sauce, cherry tomatoes and arugula. The sandwiches were amazing with unique flavors that did not overpower each other. As we finished dinner, we saw that they also offered a breakfast sandwich. You know we went back the next morning!

Breakfast was just as unique as dinner. The sandwich had scrambled eggs, muenster cheese, cherry tomatoes and arugula served on a homemade buttermilk biscuit. If you prefer protein, the choices are smoked salmon and bacon. As we sat and interacted with the owner, Din and the chef D.R., we learned about the history of Cheeky’s, which is so rich. Many of the references, even the name of the shop, were all to honor New Orleans culture. Din takes pride in offering quality ingredients to produce excellent sandwiches. As we were chatting, he was making the biscuits to get through the day. There is even a method to rotating the biscuits so they don’t dry out. I felt at right at home in Cheeky’s and I can’t wait to return. Kudos to Din for such a great shop!
