Baltimore Thrifting!

I have been looking for military jackets for years because I love the look and vintage feel of them. My search took me to farmer’s markets to I. Goldberg in Philly. I could never find a style that worked for me and each one I found was too boxy until now.

It amazes me how strong the social media community is. I love to discover small business owners all over the world, and even some in my backyard. I stumbled across Keeper’s Vintage in Baltimore from Instagram. There was a post for Army surplus items. I DMed the owner to get more information about a jacket. She said that she would search for a jacket in my size and get back to me. Last Friday, the owner reached out to inform me that she received a few pieces that I may be interested in. I went to her shop Saturday afternoon and was blown away by the beautiful items in the store. She had everything from high waisted pants to Persian fur coats and leather gloves. Erica, the store owner shares the space with a super cool candle making business called Knits Soy and Metal, which made the space smell wonderful. I found the surplus section and two jackets sparked my interest. The first jacket is shaped like a bomber and has a zipper closure and a popped collar. It fit just right and was heavy enough to wear in the Fall into the Winter. The second piece I found is more like a shirt and has six buttons down the front and is cinched on the sides which makes it looks tailored. I would wear it is as a shirt or a light jacket. I couldn’t decide, so you know I got both for $48.00 which is a steal!

While I was waiting to purchase the jackets, I looked at some of the items from Knits Soy and Metal. I am a lover of smell goods, especially candles, so I had to restrain myself. There was a basket of air fresheners which featured her scents and I chose East African Amber, which smells fresh and a little musky. I can’t wait to go back and see what treasures I can find in Baltimore!

P.S. These great wooden buttons are made by @woodyouwear on Instagram. She is super dope!
