Sew It's My Party!
Today my friend Naima and I attended one of the B.A.S.H. Summer Series Popup Shops. It is held during the summer each month and features African American female vendors within the Washington D.C. area. The event is free to attend and it is in a chic studio warehouse space off of New York Ave. One of the new vendors I discovered was Sew It's My Party.
Shondra, who is the designer and seamstress, was selling leather oversized clutches, fringed necklaces, Ankara peplum belts and earrings. All of her creations are handmade and stood out as statement pieces on their own. Each purse was lined with contrasting fabric. I was immediately drawn to her leather feather shaped earrings. The texture of the leather used and the size was right up my alley. Each was unique. I bought the rose gold pair to go with a pair of rose gold high top Nike's that have been in my closet forever.
We left the event for some quick lunch. During laughter and conversation, I told Naima that I couldn't stop thinking about the other two pair that was at the event. After our meal, we went back to B.A.S.H., and I was anxious to see if they had sold. Shondra was happy to see us back and I told her I came back for the other two pairs. My heart sank when I didn't see the black pair. She told us that they were being used for their fashion show. I quickly paid for them and waited for them to be packaged.
I was so impressed with Shondra's creativity and professionalism. She offers sewing parties, sips n sews, group and individual lessons. If you are not in the D.C. area, she has a website to check out her services and goods.
