Doggie Shampoo!

Chewee is my 7 year old Shih Tzu rescue who always melts my heart. I have had her for almost 6 years, and learning what works and doesn't work for her has been trial and error. Because of her breed, she has bad skin allergies and is always itchy. We had tried everything from expensive prescribed shampoos to oatmeal baths, but she still scratches.
Recently, I was browsing Pinterest (as I do everyday), I decided to look up natural dog friendly shampoos. I came across a very simple solution that could cleanse Chewee, as well as, help with fleas and ticks. The ingredients are Dawn dish detergent, white vinegar and warm water. Mix it all in a container and apply to your pup. I have heard of using Dawn in the past, but I experienced that it made her fur waxy, so the addition of vinegar peeked my interest. The author said that vinegar removed oil from the skin and coat. The directions suggested to let the solution sit on your dog for 5 minutes and rinse. I followed the directions and dried Chewee off.
I tried to put her on the balcony to allow her to air dry, but she wasn't having it. I ended up blow drying her fur. Her coat is soft and white again. The best part is that she doesn't have that dog smell. Chewee sleeps about 18 hours a day (no lie) and her pheromones produce a scent that isn't always pleasant. Thankfully, that is gone. I'm sure that I will continue to use her homemade shampoo from now on. It didn't seem to bother her and is a lot lighter on my wallet than over the counter shampoos!
