Healthy Summer Dessert...Broiled Stone Fruit!

Summer 2019 is wrapping up and I am a bit sad. I will not miss the 90+ degree summer days, but I love summer fruit, especially stone fruit. Peaches, nectarines and plums are delicious and plentiful.
Eastern Market is my favorite farmer's market in Washington, DC. Visiting the market on the weekends is part of my routine and I love seeing the local vendors. There is an abundance of produce vendors along the street. My favorite fruit vendor is based out of West Virginia and sells a variety of watermelon, heirloom tomatoes and stone fruit. During one late visit to the market, I found out that the produce is reduced to $1 a pound! I gathered about 3 pounds of peaches and nectarines and rush home. I love their produce because it is ready to eat, opposed to rock hard fruit found in the grocery stores.

Since the peaches are plenty and sweet, I try to eat as much as I can. However, they have a short shelf life. Instead of getting rid of my peaches, I decided to get creative and broil the fruit under direct heat. I sprinkled brown sugar and a little pumpkin pie spice and placed in the oven. After 5-7 minutes, the peaches are ready. Some people put fresh whipped cream on top of the peaches, but I don't think it is needed. If you love to balance sweet and savory like me, I add a pinch of sea salt to balance off the sweetness.
Before the Summer wraps up, try out broiled stone fruit. I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
